Website Testing
Thank you for your interest in testing this new website.
There are basically three areas of focus:
- Compare the production site with this new (test) site
- Verify and test the registration process
- Ensure that use of the new site is intuitive and operational.
More details are listed here:
- There’s a Task Management page that I encourage you to use to report bugs, suggestions, or requests for change.
- Ensure that ALL pages with lists of files on the new site include all of the files that are currently listed on the production site.
- Ensure that menu navigation works for all menu options. Note that logged in users have more options in the menu than do visitors who are NOT logged in. Attempting to navigate to a non-existent page will land you on the Oops! page.
- Navigation by way of the menu is different between sites. I hope navigation on this new site is better and more straight forward.
- I want to know about ANYTHING that you find that “didn’t happen the way you expected”. In my opinion, a website should be intuitive to visitors–you shouldn’t need an instruction manual to use the website. So, with me being the developer of the site, some things that are intuitive to me may not be intuitive to you. It’s those things that need to be smoothed out–found and fixed. If you happen to think “I just don’t know how it works”—that’s the sort of thing that needs to be fixed; either with a better explanation on the page or with improved “intuitiveness”.
- Regarding Registration, I’ve deleted all of your accounts so that you can test the process. Currently, PayPal is in TESTING mode so the payment process to Join will not function (has been disabled) so no monies will transferred.
- There are various levels-of-access (roles and capabilities) for registered users on the site, listed here. Different users can access pages that other users can’t and/or can see content on any given page that other users can’t see. I assign permissions (p) and capabilities (c). Some of the permissions and capabilities are:
- Visitor (p): someone who has registered but is not currently a paid member can’t access any more than if they didn’t register at all. However, allowing visitors to register for the site gives us an opportunity to solicit them to become members.
- Editor (p): Access to various website features and website pages.
- Member (p): those who are currently active members can see Member-Only pages like newsletters, membership list, etc..
- Board (p): can see member-only content AND the Board-only page.
- Comments (p): receives email notices of and can respond to comments and questions that visitors or members submit on the Comments page.
- Secretary (c): can upload meeting minutes to the Meeting Minutes page via the Board-only page.
- Membership (c): can access the Membership Tools page and can upload the latest membership list that will then be available to members.
- Newsletter (c): can upload the newsletters to the Newsletter Archive page.
- Volunteering(c): can access the list of volunteering suggestion entries.
- Map Manager: can add new or updated biking maps to the maps page.
… There are probably more matters to test that I will add as they surface.
