HSC Google Calendar Tutorial

The Google Calendar has many features. Only those labeled in the image below will be discussed here.

- Create Button – Click this button to create a new event. After clicking the button, a window will open.
- Mini Calendar – The mini-calendar gives you a quick view of the currently selected month. You may click the < and > buttons to navigate to the date for which you wish to create a new event or change an existing event.
- Calendar View – The calendar may be displayed in a number of formats including Day, Week, Month, 4 Days, or Agenda. You may select the layout that best meets your needs and change the layout at any time. A default layout and other features may be selected by clicking the Settings button.
- User ID – You may have various Google accounts and therefore more than one “calendar”. When creating or editing calendar entries, be sure that you’ve selected your Google account. Note that only specific ID’s will be given permission to add, change and delete events on the HSC calendar.
- Settings – The Settings window allows you to view and change default settings and control other advanced features of Google Calendars.
- My Calendars – A list of calendars owned by the user ID as indicated at the upper right corner of the calendar window. Note that for both your own calendars or other calendars, when you hover your mouse cursor over the name of a calendar, a small down-pointing arrow appears. When you click on this arrow, the color of text for entries and other settings may be changed. You may change these settings as often as you wish or not at all.
- Other Calendars – A list of calendars owned by others to which you have access. Your level of access to the events on Other Calendars is controlled by the owner of any given calendar and may only be changed by them.
- Event – After an event is created, clicking on the event will display a summary of the event.
Fields consist of:- Time and title of the event
- Date of the event
- Where: Provides a valid map location then clicking on the word “map” to the right of the location will open Google Maps with the location of the event displayed in the middle of the map. To edit an existing event, click on the “Edit Event” text.
- Calendar: The name of the Google Calendar on which the event was created.
- Created by: The user-ID (email address) of the person who created the event.
Next, enter the event details.
- Click on the Create button and and then on “Event”
- Click on “More options”


- Enter a Title for the event
- Use the shaded areas to select or directly enter the Date and Time of the event
- Enter the Event location. Please enter only the address, city, and state of the event. Doing so will automatically result in a clickable map link on the completed entry.
- IMPORTANT! Ensure that “Huggers Social Events” is selected as the calendar name.
- Optional: You may enter any additional information in the Description field.
- Finally, click the Save button in the upper right corner of the window.
