Pacesetters... Turin Hiking Trip - 2003 . . . . . Return to "Hiking"

Turin, NY Hiking - October 10-12, 2003
Hiking, fall foliage sightseeing, boat tours, great food, chair lifts, views, vistas and shopping awaited 17 members of the Huggers Ski Club last fall. We all arrived in the Tug hill plateau area and settled into the Pioneer Lodge.

We all enjoyed a gourmet meal at the Steak & Brew Friday night. After dinner a few brave Huggers took the traditional stroll through the cemetery under clear skies and bright moonlight.

The Pioneer Lodge is a working dairy farm and bed n' breakfast with early American history and charm. Diane was a wonderful hostess and we all had many choices for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast included fresh baked muffins and coffee cakes along with traditional eggs, toast, muffins, fruit, and pancakes with a secret ingredient.

Warm temperatures and sunny skies greeted us on Saturday morning as we headed off to hike the ridge trail at Whetstone Gulf State Park. Beautiful fall colors made the hike extra special. Since the day was so nice, it was a rushed trip back to the lodge to change and drive over to Old Forge for the boat tour of the Fulton Chain of Lakes. Thanks to Tony's short cut most of us were able to reach Old Forge in time to get tickets on the tour boat or the smaller mail boat. Some people went shopping or took a chair lift ride for a higher view. Others checked out the Boonville Arts Festival.

Back to the lodge on Saturday night for a home cooked turkey dinner prepared by our hostess and chosen by majority vote of the guests. The turkey dinner is one of five family style meals offered at the lodge. Games and relaxing filled in the rest of the evening.

Sunday proved to be another wonderful weather day and after another delicious breakfast, we decided to hike the Carpenter Recreation trails. After the hike everyone packed up and headed out on their own homeward bound adventure.

Another fun filled Huggers weekend event in the beautiful Turin area.
