Our Pacesetter hikes grew naturally out of the regular walking group. Hikes differ from
walks because they are usually on rougher wooded terrain and may be hilly. Some of our
popular Tuesday hikes are in the local parks: Turning Point Park, Tryon Park, Thousand Acre
Swamp, Oatka Creek, Durand Eastman Park, and Seneca Park to name a few. They usually last
about 1 1/2 hrs. and we rate them as to difficulty. Hiking boots are often recommended.
There are a variety of hikes all year round and on winter evenings some are done with
flashlights or under moonlight. We also do many longer hikes on Sundays. We've gone to
Niagara Gorge, Naples, Stoney Brook, and Garnet Hill. We've led many hikes to Letchworth
State Park, exploring different sections each time. With driving time, Sunday hikes can
involve anywhere from half to a full day, depending on the leader and the individual hike.
We usually carpool (sharing gas expenses) and bring lunch. Trail times vary from 2-5 hrs.
We keep a good brisk pace, definitely faster than a stroll, but usually not racing through
it either. These are also rated as to difficulty in the newsletter. Come out and join us!
