High School Reunion Picnic 2010 . . . . . . . Return to "Picnics/Clambakes", or . . "Social Activities"

Braddock Bay State Park, May 22, 2010

On Saturday May 22nd, the Hugger’s High School Reunion party began at Braddock Bay Park - a celebration party for all Huggers who attended high school at some time in their life. As you walked into the Pavilion and Lodge, hand made High School pennants were displayed on the walls. High School names boldly printed across the pennants represented schools from Massachusetts to South Carolina, in vivid school colors ranging from Red and Black; to Blue and Gold.

Maps of Rochester, New York State and the United States were hanging in the Lodge. As each of the seventy-five Huggers walked up to the registration desk they were greeted by Sally and Guy. Every Hugger was then given a star to be placed on one of the three maps to mark the location of their high school. A weather forecast of a passing shower threat, which never really happened, allowed all three outings to take place.

Bob D. Reports on biking: Huggers Class Reunion Bicycle Field Trip;
Principal Kathy and Vice Principal Bob called the assembly to attention for instructions on the bicycle field trips. The six Freshmen went along the lakeshore and investigated the marketing of frozen dairy products in Charlotte. They received 15 credits for their efforts. Four Juniors went to Hilton to study small town America. They were awarded 22 credits. Four of the five Seniors that went after the President’s Council on Physical Fitness Award earned the 30 credits necessary, and one Senior got Detention for breaking his bicycle. Many thanks to the President of the Board of Education, Alice, for sponsoring the field trips.

Toni H. briefs Kayaking;
"Thirteen Hugger paddlers followed the eastern shore of Braddock Bay as we ventured into the wetlands south of the Parkway. We found what is probably the best fishing spot in those waters as we meandered through the shallows. Fish (Carp?) were splashing all around our boats. It was a beautiful balmy afternoon of paddling on a likewise great day of Huggers fun!. "

Pauline M;
She led the Cranberry Pond Nature trail hike and said it was well attended and enjoyed by all!

It was a beautiful spring day to fire up the charcoal grill. Our expert cooks Bill H. and Ken M. cooked Italian sausage/w pepper and hamburgers w/ Bill’s special sauce. Taste and smells of food cooking on an old fashion charcoal grill. Yummmmy! Huggers also brought many tasty appetizers, side dishes and desserts to add to the delicious meal.

Ahhh, the high school photographs, were on display in the Pavilion where the best conversations took place. You heard things like "Is your picture really there, I can’t find it." "Who are these people?" "Wow, I can identify 3 people right away." "I remember those glasses and that hairdo, I wore my hair like that too!" The contest winner for the person Most Easily Identified from their high school photograph went to DeWitt. Way to go Dewitt, you still look great! Pam R. got the most votes for "Most Difficult to Identify." Pam is a fairly new member so she had a lot of people stumped.

After dinner Judy H. (Co-captain of her H.S. Jr. Varsity cheerleading team) got Huggers involved in the High School Bingo Mixer. Our one and only "Float Dancing Bumble Bee" Iris won first place. Second place bingo winner went to Flo M. "our H.S. class officer and drama student". Our Inside Information & Secrets Board was a lot of laughs and gave us some insight to what we’re all about. Who would have thought that Karen E. would be voted "Most Innocent in High School"? Tom S. forgot his sport coat and ended up in detention for 3 days. (After that, I hope you kept a spare in your locker). The secretary of the Astronomy Club was Dave K. (Clue - he likes to write). Our beloved Frank D’s secret was "He never had a date in H.S."

The High School Reunion picnic took place because of an absolutely outstanding committee. Everyone pulled together to make this event happen. I want to thank everyone on the committee for their incredible ideas, leading outings, making pennants, hauling food and property, making purchases, cooking, registration, setup and clean up. Thank you committee members - they are Bill H., Bob D., Dave K., Frank D., Ginny M., Guy P., Jody M., Judy H., Kathy S., Ken M., Melinda S., Pauline M., Sally K., Toni H., & Trudy M. and Don W. for rescuing me and getting the beer keg. Also Karen E., Kathy M., and Wendy R. for helping out. The Best Committee Ever!! Thank you to all Huggers for bringing in your high school information and photos and helping with clean up. This was a fun filled event which gave us a glimpse into the talents and history of our Hugger members.
