The weekend of January 18th, 28 of us enjoyed winter wonderland cross-country skiing and snowshoeing at Camp Gorham in the Adirondacks. We started the weekend right with a big dinner at the famous Big Moose Lodge.
We had fabulous light powdery snow conditions. The expert skiers enjoyed the variety of downhill slopes, the beginners had ample terrain and companionship to practice, and the snowshoers enjoyed the trails and gorgeous scenery. Three brand new skiers, Dick T, Roberta, and Rob D, had new equipment yet no chance to practice before the trip due to poor snow conditions in Rochester. With a "just do it" attitude and fresh snow at Gorham, they were cross-country skiers within two days. With so much snow, "we all did the best we could" to enjoy every minute.
Saturday night, Beechwood Cabin enjoyed a ham and scalloped potato dinner. We created our own Valentine's Day bags and valentines to pass out to our cabin mates. Sound hokey? You have no idea how creative/odd people can be. Artist Dave K. created a replica of our cabin and won best bag. His reward was a kiss from all the ladies in the cabin.
Bruce's late night snowshoe group tried to spook the cabins in vain. We accused him of taking a nap and then putting outdoor gear on to prove he was really outside.
Other weekend treats included blueberry pancakes, cinnamon French toast, homemade soups, chili, and lots of baked goods. MMMM. It was a fantastic weekend for all - tons of snow, new friends, warm and clean cabins, and great food. Thanks to everyone who made this a successful trip.
