Cross-Country Ski/Snowshoe Trip
Camp Gorham, Eagle Bay, N.Y. - January 19-21, 2001
Just a note to let everyone know about the great snow and fun we had. Mornings, we woke up
to a howling coffee pot, which substituted for the ambiance of a lone wolf. Our cozy cabins
had coed bathrooms (interesting). "Please don't slam me," said the bathroom doors. We
enjoyed fabulous meals, including Joe's soup, Ghiradelli brownies, and Gary's great buy on
lasagna at Sam's.
We enjoyed games at night, including Jeanne's clue for the catch phrase: "a drink you have
at Locust Lawn" turned out to be "Stanley's Cup." Jeanne was thinking of Rider's Cup.
Locust Lawn proves she had a few drinks herself. The Cedar Cabin found out how many Huggers
it takes to change a light bulb: three. Joyce commented, "we gained three pounds despite
skiing 17 miles in two days." Richard invited all to a champagne toast to the
one-year anniversary of his hip replacement surgery and the fact that he led ski outings
all weekend. Isn't science great?! Be careful if Mary invites you to ski along; she's fast
and you'll become the anchor.
The "Ritalin" die-hard group skied hard all day, plus snowshoed after dinner with headlamps.
Bruce returned to Mary with "frozen moustache needs kiss." Peggy got caught straddling a log,
and Jon proved that "Beechwood be fast, Cedar be slow." (Beechwood and Cedar are cabin names.)
Others enjoyed the scenery, took pictures of the lakes, waterfalls, and more.
