Genesee Country Village’s Annual Winter Day, February 15, 2004
On February 15th, a group of Huggers spent the day in Mumford, NY at Genesee Country Museum’s Nature Center, promoting both the Center and the Huggers Ski Club. Our Cross-Country Ski group had done this before and this year the Pacesetter snowshoers joined in for the first time. Each group had it’s own table with literature, newsletters, membership forms, and outdoor equipment on display. During the six-hour event our members met with the public to demonstrate skiing and snowshoeing equipment, and took turns leading small groups out on the Center’s trails. During "quiet time" they also had opportunities to hike through the historic Village, visit the Gift Shop, and indulge in hot chili supplied by Preferred Care of Rochester. Everyone had a great time and the weather was beautiful with plenty of snow.
Many people contributed time and effort to this event. Special thanks to Gary C. for heading up the Cross-Country Ski table, and to snowshoers Pauline and Carl who showed up early to help set up and check out the trails before the Center opened. Also volunteering their time were Alice, Ginny, Darlene, John R., and Steve M. Thanks again to all who helped, and especially to Linda, the Center’s Director and Naturalist, for inviting us to participate in this event. She was very pleased with how everything went and has invited us back again next year. So keep this in mind and come join us in the future!
