Delta Lake 2009 . . . . . . . Return to "Camping Trips"

Another great Huggers Ski Club camping weekend took place at Delta Lake State Park the weekend of August 14th - 16th. Most of our campers arrived on Friday, set up their sites and met for a communal Happy Hour, dinner and campfire along the beautiful lakeshore. We spent the weekend biking, kayaking, swimming and generally relaxing Huggers' style. There were two bike rides, thanks to Dick T. who mapped out the routes around the lake. One kayak outing gave us wonderful views of the lake including the Dam and the shale cliffs on the southern end of the lake. We moored out boats and swam in several inlets where the water was warm and clear.

Another outing offered sites of the marshy east side of the lake and the islands which are home to many waterfowl and other wildlife. Beautiful! Bill met a challenge and paddled a tandem kayak himself with a newcomer Janeen who was recovering from shoulder surgery. He was rewarded with a glimpse of her new tattoo. (I won't mention its location). Non-kayak owners got the opportunity to try out the kayaks. I think we sparked some further interest in the sport!

Saturday morning we all enjoyed a great Blueberry Pancake breakfast prepared by Bill. Yum! We gathered Saturday for our annual camping Wine and Cheese party which extended into the night. Around the campfire, Deb M. led us in a couple hours of Truth or Dare. There were some very inventive stories. A couple of us swam by moonlight in the warm lake (donning life vests of course). The much anticipated "skinny dipping " never materialized...there's always next year. Yours truly went to sleep early..... Camping can be such hard work!! Yeah, right! I was told there was a phantom "streaker" through the campsites overnight but was not captured on film. Corn on the cob was cooked and shared long after "quiet hours" were to be observed ...care of Karen Evans. We had GREAT fun and all were sad to see the weekend come to an end. Thanks to everyone for your contributions of food, drink, firewood AND for all the help everyone gave each other in the set up and break down of the camp. Hope to see you next year!!
