A hearty thanks to Iris and her awards committee for running a fun End-Of-Season Pedal Power party. Chuck H. won the "concrete butt" award for the most miles this year, and was followed by Jules and Jim W. Iris won the award for most rides attended. Chuck G. was awarded an apron to commemorate the "Mr. Fix-It" award because he is always so helpful to distressed bikers. Chuck was also responsible for designing and creating a unique bike accessory for Melinda to encourage her to bike more next season - a handlebar that includes an attached wine glass (and an ashtray)!
Thanks also to Peggy for bringing a calendar to request rides to be filled in now for April so that we have plans before next season kicks in. To add a ride, call Peg at 924-1712. Note that Joe D. and Hale are running the April 2007 kickoff party at the Greece Millenium Lodge, in case you¹d like to help on their committee in the spring.
Pedal Power had another successful season in 2006. The number of rides (and therefore the number of riders and miles) was down somewhat from recent years, probably due in part to rainy weather in the spring and the fall. However, the average number of miles per rider was the 2nd highest since statistics have been kept. It should be noted that Huggers Pedal Power has recorded almost 1500 rides since 1994, with over 23,000 riders, and almost 600,000 miles covered! We should have a "million mile party"; however, until we get closer to that goal, let's focus on getting more rides on the schedule for next year. In that way, we will have plenty of rides to attend despite potential rainy weather. Pedal on!!
