2003 End of Season Party . . . . . . . Return to "Biking Events"

What a blast!
Our party with nearly 100 bikers was most memorable beginning with a hike at Black Creek Park that took a little longer than expected. WE WERE NOT LOST! Our trail per the park map found us facing watery swampland in more areas than usual, so we had to retrace our steps back to the lodge. We give credit to those members who participated in an earlier bike ride from the lodge PLUS the hike. The hikers made it back in time for a fabulous catered dinner with crabmeat salad, ribs, chicken, and more.

"No Hill Phil", Dewitt, Iris and our evening host Jim W., presented awards to most rides, most miles, and many other humorous moments including Best Flat Tire Story, Best Rain Story, Evil Knievel and Clara Barton awards, and Most Sadistic Ride Leader. Steve P. was disappointed to learn that Rich T. won most Sadistic Ride Leader, so he’s volunteered to run an every other Friday Mendon ride next summer as well as his Tuesday training rides. Volunteers to help Steve and take over the other Friday nights are requested.

We were sorry Henry was unable to attend the party so we could thank him personally for all his hard work at the past Friday night Mendon rides. We had more than enough suggestions on weekend getaways for next summer, which were gathered by Joyce, and the club will have to whittle these down to a manageable number. Kathy and Bob are planning to run a Sacketts Harbor weekend 9/10-11/04. Peg and Mike might be presenting a Skaneateles weekend late in August to accommodate Mike’s plans to host bike rides around all the Finger Lakes. There was talk of a Niagara Falls ride, Toronto Ferry excursion, and an Auburn weekend to attend the town’s Great Race event.

The total number of unique riders in 2003 was 247, and the total number of scheduled rides was 151. The total miles biked this year is up to 59,782. Many thanks to Jim W., winner of the "Concrete Butt" award, for hosting this well run event, and to his crew of volunteers who helped. Also, if anyone is interested in taking over next season’s bike scheduling or statistics duties, Iris and Dewitt would not mind a break. Please contact Iris, Dewitt or any board member if you would like to help.
