Over 50 participants had a wonderful, adventurous afternoon participating in Russ’s road rally. It was the perfect day to be driving around figuring out clues in order to find our way and answer the questions --- peak fall foliage but cool and a little drizzly. The clues and questions were challenging but not impossible and the route had little traffic.
The scavenger hunt items were an additional challenge --- the fall nature items were easy but the 7/16" wrench and the pink handkerchief were tough. The total mileage was 44 miles, and we all ended up at The Beachcomber Inn on Conesus Lake for an optional dinner or just drinks. One team racked up 89 miles without killing each other, returned in good spirits anyways --- and won last prize of a road map. The all-female team didn’t win in spite of Chris trying to bribe Russ with special attention (but the other guys agreed it would have swayed them).
All participants would like to thank Russ and his assistants Jody and Chuck for a terrific and clever afternoon. We know a great deal of planning and prep work was required to make it such a successful event. We all had such a GREAT time.
The Auto Fun Rally went like this:
Sure, there’s other stuff to recall, but these are the high points, folks. The whole thing terminated
at Onanda park on Canandaigua Lake’s beautiful sunny Westside where all enjoyed refreshments and a
delicious dinner.
To the participants: If you liked this silly jaunt & you would like to have us do another
one some time, please make your desires known to Jeff, 703-4536. Conversely, if you didn’t like it
at all, don’t bother calling.
Thanks to Cathy & Sue for their help. Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone.

GOOD TIMES ON THE ROAD RALLY!
- Jody S. and Sue Q.
"The Wrath of Grapes".
There were lots of good times, laughter and smiles all the way. This event was not too
daunting for the directionally impaired and there were no fistfights, no dirty tricks,
no accidents, no breakdowns, no casualties, no one got lost and there were no roadside burials.
Whew!
1. A self-directed tour in the Finger Lakes area beginning at 12:30, lasting for 2½ to
5 hours, and covering approximately 59 miles. The weather was gorgeous. We couldn’t wait
to take to the country, leaving the asphalt of Eastview Mall’s parking lot behind us.
2. We took a look at "injun" country with a stop at Ganandagan, the site of a major
Seneca population center; and now, a historic visitor attraction. Is "injun" politically
correct these days? Never mind! These rules have been suspended for the duration of the rally.
3. The nationally famous Antique Wireless Association has a museum in East Bloomfield and they
opened their doors especially for us! The caretakers, being enthusiastic fun loving people, spared
no effort demonstrating, informing, and entertaining rally goers, some of whom remained past 45
minutes at this stop. (Remember the first purpose of our rally is FUN, not for time, speed, and
distance constraints).
4. There were cemeteries and Civil War monuments, antique cars to ogle and explore. Also,
did you find the prize "pig" of the Bloomfield Historical Society?
5. Cheshire Union Schoolhouse was the first authorized pee stop on this rally. Yessss, we
remembered how you complained about the lack of them the last time. The Union provides a vast
array of items to explore including gifts, antiques, a creative delicatessen and the hardest to
locate rest room in Ontario County.
6. Ontario County’s "Jump Off Park" is pretty high up and it affords quite a view. If you
brought a hang glider you could have used it here. Shame on you people who couldn’t identify
the old Ski Valley Resort. Is this still a ski club?
7. Some people had a trailside encounter with the Banana Republic attired German bird watcher
and ex-bumblebee catcher, Herr Helmut Pith. He tested your tactile discrimination skills with a
daring game called "What’s in the Bag?" Some people lost their innocence there.
8. The convoy later got down to Naples (still a village!), and smack in the middle of an arts
and crafts show in full swing. Mary reports that she lost $$$ there.
9. Now it’s back up into the hills to savor flavors and the hospitality of the tasting room of
Arbor Hill Winery. Wine, and food, and wine, and the terrific gift shop and show room, and then
some more wine..... eh, eh, eh.
10. Navigating the steepest curviest road in the Finger Lakes region was attempted after
visiting Arbor Hill’s wine tasting room. W’eeeer so glad that you all signed those event releases!
Nobody got "bopped" on Bopple Hill Road.
11. From our "who gives a darn" department, we had to count the windowpanes of that gorgeous
mansion on the lakeside road. I’ll pass on this one, thank you. It was more of a threshold of
frustration test. See #8.
