1880's House 2007
. . . . . Return to "Cross Country Skiing"

Skiing in the Winona Forest
1880's House Cross-Country Ski Weekend, February 16-18, 2007
The weekend started with a ton of snow, everywhere. The Tug Hill region has received snow at a record pace, and we could see it in all the towns we passed thru, including Oswego, Mexico, and Pulaski, where our B&B was located. This B&B has hosted Huggers for a number of Cross-Country and biking/kayaking trips, and we always have a good time there. Linda, the proprietor, serves up a terrific variety of soups, and a homemade dinner on Saturday night.
On Friday night, we had live music in the B&B, courtesy of John P. On Saturday, most folks skied or snowshoed in the Winona Forest, where the most important question became "Has the trail been broken?" because of the depth of the snowfall. Some ventured to snowshoe the eerie "moonscape" at nearby Selkirk Shores, and some just skied till they dropped. An unnamed trio tried night skiing in the forest, their excuse being "We were out a little further than we expected", but they eventually made it back safely.
On Sunday, many chose to ski groomed trails at Osceola, some chose a different section of Winona Forrest, and a few enjoyed watching the dogsled races at the north end of the park. Many thanks to Mary E. for running a highly successful trip, with a few challenges tossed in due to the bitterly cold weather. Great job Mary!
